Sherill "Jay" Jernigan

Sherrill “Jay” Jernigan, age 59, of Davidson County, passed away on December 28, 2025, in Davidson County. Born on October 10, 1966, also in Davidson County, Jay was a lifelong resident who deeply loved the community he called home.

Jay was known for his warm heart and strong devotion to his family. A true family man, he treasured time spent with his loved ones and especially adored his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Whether line dancing or spending peaceful days fishing, Jay embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm and gratitude.

His faith was a cornerstone of his life. Jay was a lifelong member of Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church in Lexington, where his relationship with Christ remained strong and steadfast throughout his life.

Jay is survived by his father, Tony Ray Made (Loretta Nobles); his son, Michael Jernigan (Naomi Davis); his brother, Gerold Jernigan (Linda); his two cherished grandchildren, Jupiter Jernigan and Gwendolyn Jernigan; and many adored nephews and nieces.

Family was always most important to Jay, and his legacy of love, faith, and togetherness will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.

The family will hold a private celebration of life in his honor.
