Sherrill F. Morris, Sr. age 89, of Alston Brook, formerly of Warf Road, Lexington passed away Monday night (Aug. 15, 2011) at Alston Brook. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm
Thursday (Aug. 18, 2011) at Salisbury National Cemetery, with Rev. Terry Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00until 8:00 pm Wednesday night.
Sherrill was born in Montgomery County, February 3, 1922 to Charlie Morris and Margaret Ann Cranford Morris. He was a retired employee of PPG and of the Methodist faith. He served his country in the US Army during World War II, serving in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster and EAMET Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars and was a member of Path Finders during the War. A member of VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8 and Amvets Post 13. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margie Gourley Morris, second wife, Grey T. Morris; one brother Fred Morris and a sister, Addie Bea Russell.
He is survived by two daughters, Patti Crook and husband Forrest of Lexington and Shellia M. Williams and husband A.H. of Linwood; two sons, Charles Morris of Dunedin, FL and Rev. Sherrill Morris, Jr. and wife Joyce of Willow Springs, NC; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and a special friend Elsie Motley.
