Sherryl Freeland

December 18, 1947 — August 11, 2022

Ms. Sherryl Hersey Freeland, 74, of Westridge Drive, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

A celebration of life will be held at 2pm Sunday, August 21 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, 301 N. Main St. Lexington, by pastor Mike Maffucci. To honor her, colorful clothing attire is encouraged.  The service will be livestreamed at at this link.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Sherry was born December 18, 1947, in Spokane, WA to Ronald and Blythe (Blackman) Hersey. She graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1966, where she enjoyed playing her saxophone in the school’s marching band. Sherry attended Glenville State College and graduated from Shepherd University teaching third grade in Martinsburg, WV. While residing in Statesville, NC for 30 years raising her family, she was active in Women’s Aglow and worked part time with Teen Challenge and as a substitute teacher.

Sherry was a devoted, loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Playing with her grandchildren brought her such joy along with baking homemade pies, pancakes, and desserts. She had an adventurous spirit, was an avid Christian, loved waving banners, and going to the beach. She was beautiful and always had a smile on her face. She deeply cared for others in need.

Sherry was a student of God’s word for almost 40 years. Her passion was her Strong Tower Ministry. Sherry traveled to churches and events demonstrating through visuals the hope, the love, and the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Sherry is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Christy Esworthy (Bob) of Lexington; her son, Patrick Freeland (Jennifer) of Boca Raton, FL; her brother, Robert Hersey (Suzanne) of Charles Town, WV; her grandchildren, Robert III and Lyla Esworthy and Alayna and Vallery Freeland; her cherished bird, ‘Baby Boo’.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be directed to Cancer Services of Davidson County, www.cancerservicesofdc.org , or to the Zion Center for Worship and the Arts of Charlotte, www.zcwa.com/donate .
