Shirley Carpenter

Shirley Ann Carpenter of Lexington, NC passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021. She was born on April 19, 1937 in Hoult, WV. Shirley married Walter Richard Carpenter, April 19, 1957. Shirley and Richard, who worked for Owens Illinois Glass, moved to Lexington in 1973 where they raised their two sons, Rick and Greg. She was a member of the Eye Opener Bowling League in Lexington and was the league’s Secretary/Treasurer. Shirley attended Stoner’s Grove Baptist Church.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents Leamon Doyle Cain, Sr. and Viola Cain, and her brother, Gary Cain. She is survived by her brother Leamon Doyle “Sonny” Cain, Jr. (Jill), sons, Rick (Toni) and Greg (Cindy), grandchildren, Marc Carpenter (Kristie), Kathryn Brooke “KB” Hayes (Bill) and great-grandson Walter Joseph Carpenter.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, 301 N. Main Street, Lexington, NC. Masks will be required for all who plan to attend. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10AM at the funeral home. Interment  will follow the service in Forest Hill Memorial Park, and will be open to anyone who wishes to join the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations to be sent to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Phone: 336-760-1114.
