Shirley Delyte King

July 30, 1935 — July 19, 2024

Shirley Delyte Sloan King aged 88, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, at Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County surrounded by family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Born on July 30, 1935, in Forsyth County, to the late Darrell Sanford Sloan and Ruth Elizabeth Hendricks Sloan. Shirley dedicated her life to her family. She married James Howard King, her loving husband of 70 years and together they built a loving home filled with countless cherished memories. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Pansy and Edna and brothers, Roger and George.

As a devoted homemaker, Shirley took pride in creating a nurturing environment for her children and grandchildren. Her home was always a place of comfort with good cooking and many joyful gatherings.

Shirley was known for her generosity, compassion, and unwavering support working within her home as a caregiver for children for many years, providing guidance and wisdom that will be remembered for years.  She enjoyed sewing, making clothes for her children and grandchildren through the years. She also enjoyed collecting and enjoyed immensely decorating for Christmas.

She is survived by her loving spouse, James Howard King; her children, Angela Koonts (Danny), Dawn Martin (Gene),  Crystal Leonard (Mark) and Bradley King (Tami); her grandchildren, Sarah (Stephen), Caitlin (Billy), Daniel (Alli), Dustin (Missy), and Joseph; Great-grandchildren, Bonnie Cait, and Quinn; Sisters Libby (Kelly), Ozelle (Ravon), and Janeth (Griff), as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

A funeral service will be held July 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to service.

Shirley will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
