Shirley Hammons

Shirley Johnson Hammons, 73, of Shoreline Drive, died Saturday, December 18, at her home after declining health of several years. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service. Ms. Hammons was born October 25, 1937 in Darlington, SC to Ivy Clarence Johnson, and Doris Foster Johnson. She was a C.N.A. and had worked at the Brian Center. Her son, Randy Andrew Sappington, preceded her in death, as well as her brother, Ivy Clarence Johnson, Jr. She is survived by her longtime companion of 23 years, Jack Dean Merrill, Sr., of the home; her grandchildren, Yolanda Shaw, Randall Sappington, Cailyn Sappington and Johnathan Sappington; her great grandchildren, Amber Shaw, Aaron Shaw, Gabriel Sappington, and Amanda Sappington; her brothers, Harold Dean Johnson and companion, Rita, and J.C. Johnson and wife, Judy, both of Welcome; and her sisters, Irene Myers and husband, Carl, of Linwood; Mary Williams and husband, Johnny, of Tyro, and Barbara Edwards of Tennessee.
