Shirley Burkhart Long

Mrs. Shirley Bernice Burkhart Long, 83, of Grayson Creek Asssisted Living, died Friday, November 30, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm Saturday, December 1 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. David Langley.  Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-3pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Long was born March 15, 1935 in Davidson County to Will Burkhart and Mabel Clayton Burkhart.  Shirley was a loving and caring mom and grandma.  She always had a smile on her face.  She worked hard all of her life, including 25 years at Henry Link Furniture and later as a Walmart People Greeter for 10 years.   She attended First Alliance Church.   Her husband, John Hoyt Long, Sr., her brothers, Hoyle Burris and William Burkhart, and her sisters, Charlotte Burkhart, Elaine Ward and Juanita Gavion, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Reid (Bobby), of Lexington; her son, John Hoyt Long, Jr, (Sharon) of Lexington; her brother, Garland Burkhart of Lexington; her sister, Connie McCarn of Lexington; and her grandchildren, Misti Reid Cook (Cole) and Chad Robert Reid.
