Shirley Jean Parnell

Shirley Jean Metcalf Parnell, 74, of Chickasaw Road, died Friday, May 13, 2016, at High Point Regional Hospital. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016, at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Daniel Miller officiating. Entombment will follow. The family will receive friends Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Parnell was born August 4, 1941, in Davidson County, to Albert Metcalf and Pearly Mae Watkins Metcalf. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Virginia Long; and brothers in law, Huey Long and Jay Layton. Surviving are her loving husband Weldon Parnell Jr. of the home; son, Ricky Lanier and wife Gloria of Lexington; daughters, Renee Reid and husband Jack of Thomasville and Debra Lanier of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Linda Rucker and husband Lou, Jeanette Layton, Retha Hill and husband Rayvon, Judy Wagner and Sue West.
