Shirley Spry West

March 23, 1938 — April 27, 2014

 Shirley West, 76 died Sunday morning, April 27, 2014 at Abbotts Creek Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church with the Rev. Cheryl G. Cottingham and Pastor Michael Gates officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. Shirley was born in Davidson County on March 23, 1938 to the late Charlie Franklin Spry, Sr. and Margaret Hinkle Spry. She taught lst grade at Welcome Elementary School in Davidson County for 28 years. Throughout the years and even in her last few days, she had many former students or their parents come up and comment on her being their teacher and how much they enjoyed being in her class. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Edward West.  She loved playing the piano for her church for many years. Shirley was raised on a farm and loved gardening with her brother and sister and had lived all of her life in the Midway community. Surviving are a son Mike Morris of the home; daughter, Michelle Morris of Morrisville, NC; brother, Charlie Spry, Jr. (Faye) of Winston-Salem and a sister, Denise Currie (Keith) of Winston-Salem.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church, 3680 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to the donor’s choice. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the excellent care given during the last few weeks from the staff of 7th General at FMC and the caretakers at Abbott’s Creek Center.
