Mr. Sidney E. “Sid” Proctor, Jr., 76, of Twin Acres Drive, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Alston Brook of Lexington, after declining health.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 PM Wednesday, July 23 2008 at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. A private inurnment will be held in the Church Columbarium.
Sid was born in Mecklenburg County on March 17, 1932 to Sidney E. Proctor, Sr. and Katherine Lothery Proctor. He graduated from Lexington Senior High School and High Point College. He joined the Army Reserves in 1951 and spent 18 months in Korea. He was assigned to the Hg and Hg Co. 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th Army Korea and was chosen as a member of the Battalion Color Guard. He served in the active reserves of the U.S. Army for six years. He was employed in sales for Caterpillar Tractor and Equipment Company and operated his own Equipment Company. He was a North Carolina Real Estate Broker, a retired licensed highway contractor, and former owner of SEP Paving Co. He did highway inspection work for the City of Lexington. He married Barbara Smith Proctor in 1955 and was a member of First United Methodist Church. His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; three sons: Sid E. Proctor III, and wife, Miranda, of Midway, Jeff S. Proctor, and wife, Linda of Apex, and Tad B. Proctor and wife, Julie of Lexington; and six grandchildren: Eric S. Proctor, Emily M. Proctor, Brandon S. Proctor, Jordan B. Proctor, Chase L. Proctor and Reid Proctor.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Wednesday in the Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.
