Slim Houck

Balies Gerald “Slim” Houck, 82, of Mt. View Church Road, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Lexington Health Care. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Darrell Cartrette and Leon Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mr. Houck was born May 30, 1926, in Ashe County, to William Henry Houck and Martha Jane Lewis Houck. He was a machine operator at Frank Ix and Sons and attended Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Houck was preceded in death by his wife, Erline Caudle Houck; grandsons Christopher Cooper and Jackie Robbins; brothers, Manuel Houck, Hilton Houck, Burton Houck, Oren Houck, and Lonzo Houck; and sisters, Biddie Mains, Linnie Bumgardner, Elthel Holman, Josie Payne, and Marie Perdue;. Surviving are a son, Alvin “Buck” Houck of Lexington; daughters, Jane Robbins and husband, Bobby Gene, of Mocksville, and Polly Cook and husband, John; four grandchildren, Bobby Robbins, Jeffery Robbins, Bridget Reynolds and Paul Cook; and ten great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1136 Mt. View Church Road, Hamptonville.
