Smith Young

Wilson Smith Young, 92, of Cambridge Drive, died Friday, December 20, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House.   Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday at Memorial United Church of Christ with Rev. Jamie Kent officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Davidson County Honor Guard.   The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 until 1:00 pm prior to the service.   Mr. Young was born April 13, 1921, in Davidson County, to Wiley Deaton Young and Pearl Park Young. He was a former employee of Robert Hedrick Construction and retired from Lexington Home Brands after 22 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 3074. Mr. Young was also a member of Memorial United Church of Christ. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Williams Young and 2nd wife Doris Wade Young; daughter, Sybil Young Freeman; his brother, Deaton Woodrow Young; sisters, Margaret Paige Kennedy, Lillian Green and Irene Bean.   Surviving are sons, Martin Smith “Buddy” Young of Southmont, Von Deaton Young and wife Frances of High Point; daughter, Carolyn Smith of Winston-Salem; stepson, Terry Jones of Lexington; stepdaughters, Teresa Jones Sink (Stephen) of Linwood, Trudy Jones Smith (Andrew) of Liberty; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren.   In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Memorial United Church of Christ, 3806 East Old US Highway 64, Lexington, NC  27292.
