Sonny Conrad

Ralph Cecil “Sonny” Conrad, 75, of East Holly Grove Road, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. Kelly Groce and Doug Rowe. Burial will be in Holly Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church fellowship hall and other times at the home. Sonny was born in Davidson County on Feb. 24, 1938, to Ralph and Mabel Cecil Conrad. He was the owner and operator of The Barbecue Center with his wife, Nancy, since 1967. At First Methodist, he served on numerous committees in the church and ushered for the early worship service. He was active many years in the Lexington Jaycees and worked many hours with Davis-Townsend and Central Davidson boosters clubs and gave of his time and support to Lexington High School Booster Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty Ruth Conrad. Sonny is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Kines Conrad of the home; sons Cecil Conrad (Daragh) and Michael Conrad and fiance Kristi, all of Lexington; grandchildren Ryan and Ainslee Conrad; stepgrandchildren Cheyenne, Taylor and Bryanne; sisters Jean Gosnell of Lexington and Sarah Barnes (Charles) of Canyon Lake, Texas; mother-in-law Troy Burkhart Kines of Lexington; brothers-in-law Larry Kines and Beauford Kines (Teresa), all of Lexington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 or to First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main St., Lexington, NC 27292.
