Clyde William Everhart, Jr., age 78, better known as Sonny, died peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2016 at his home.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 1, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Revs. Duncan Martin and Jabo Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday night.
Sonny was born in Davidson County, August 25, 1937 to Clyde William Everhart, Sr. and Arwilda Essick Everhart. Sonny married Evelyn Gobble Everhart and they spent 55 wonderful years together until his death. Sonny will always be remembered by everyone who knew him for his infectious smile and his peaceful and playful demeanor. Sonny grew up in Welcome, where he attended Welcome School and graduated from North Davidson High School where he managed the basketball team under coach Francis Essic. Sonny was the owner and proprietor of Sonny’s Texaco for several years before returning to Welcome Oil Company as a delivery driver. Sonny was manager of Holdings Brothers, Inc. and retired from Hill Oil Company. Following retirement, Sonny continued to drive for Ripple Oil Company and kerosene ran through his veins. Sonny was well loved and respected in the North Davidson communities of Welcome, Midway, Reedy Creek and Arcadia. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Wayne Everhart, in-laws, Lester Gobble and Ruth McCarn Gobble and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Steve Gobble.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Darrin Everhart and wife Lisa Butler-Everhart of Welcome; grandchildren, Micah Darrin Everhart and Lillie Elisabeth Everhart; sister, Judy Everhart Martin and husband Bobby, brother-in-laws, Frank Gobble and wife Bonnie, Thomas Gobble and wife Judy; sister-in-laws, Tina Morgenson Gobble all of Lexington and Marcia Lomax Everhart of Concord; several nieces and nephews, especially Ryan Gobble of Charlotte and Keelan Gobble and a special friend of the family, Linda Leonard.
