Spurgeon Smith Trantham

February 14, 1925 — October 28, 2009

Spurgeon Smith Trantham, 84 of Alston Brook Nursing Center, formerly of Eastside Drive Lexington died Wednesday October 28, 2009, at the nursing center following a period of declining health. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ray Howell 3rd officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 3074. Mr. Trantham was born February 14, 1925, in Davidson County, to Henry Clay Trantham and Mamie Smith Trantham. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service. He was a member of Jersey Baptist Church, VFW Post 3074, and attended Catawba College. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Feezor. Surviving are his son, Dana Trantham and wife, Mary Johnson, of Cary; and sisters, Naomi Owen and Betty Hedrick and husband, Tommy, all of Southmont. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and other times at the home of the sister, Naomi Owen, 6319 NC Highway 8. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
