Stephen "Walt" Walter Hamm

Stephen Walter Hamm, age 90 of Burgess St., Lexington died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Friday in Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel conducted by Hospice Chaplin Rev. Tim Miller, burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3064.   Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.   He was born May 28, 1919 in Graham County to Stephen Edgar and Cassie Newsome Hamm. He was a retired carpenter with J.H. Allen Construction Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII and was a member of VFW Post 3064, American Legion Post 8, Amvets Post 13, and DAV. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Alford and Winfred Hamm; and two sisters, Larrene Bost and Pauline Laney.   He is survived by his wife of 51 years Flo Grant Hamm of the home; four daughters Nancy Williams and husband Ronald and Judy Johnson both of Wilmington;  Wanda Floyd and Charlene Kidd and husband Charlie both of Lexington ; nine grandchildren, Michael Koontz, Donnie Craver, Mellissa Ayers, Christy Franklin, Jennifer Hepler, Jessica Kidd, Chasity Kidd, Beverly Floyd, and Danny Craver Jr.; fourteen great-granchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and his sister in law Ruth Hamm.     Memorials in Walt’s memory may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, N.C. 27292     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
