Steve Richardson

Stephen Wesley Richardson, 73, of Lexington passed away Sunday, December 6th at Lexington Health Care from injuries received in an auto accident on September 16, 2009. The funeral will be at 11a.m. Wednesday at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Lewis Johns, Rev. David Shaffer and Rev. Dearl Bunce. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Steve was born in Johnston County on June 25, 1936 to Stephen Kirkman and Ida Lee Whitaker Richardson. He graduated from Corinth Holders High School Class of 1954. He started his career in the telephone industry with Booth-Jones & Associates in Raleigh. He served in the U.S. Army 1960-1962 as a communications specialist. He came to work with Lexington Telephone Co in 1971 as Chief of Engineering and later General Planning and Engineering Manager. In 1990 he and his wife helped their daughter start The Olde Homestead on Main Street in Lexington. After his retirement in 1996 he became more active in the business. Steve was a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church where he was a deacon and was the church treasurer for over 30 years. He was a member of the Central Carolina Civitan Club where he served as Treasurer for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents of Zebulon and by a brother John B. Richardson. Survivors include his wife, Carol Strickland Richardson, two daughters: Dawn Brogdon and her husband Perry, Vicki Comer and her husband Tommy all of Lexington. Grandchildren: Casey Leigh Darnell, Jessica Ann Darnell, Luke Thomas Comer, Grant Richardson Comer all of Lexington. Two sisters: Geneva Spencer of Las Vegas, NV, Margie Bumgarner and her husband Don of Zebulon and a brother: Wallace Richardson and his wife Evelyn of Raleigh. The Family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 North Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292 from 6 pm – 8 pm Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, 1306 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
