Brenda Sue Tussey Leonard left this earthly realm on February 18th, 2025, after a long battle with liver cancer and chronic illness. She was 75 years old.
It would be wrong to say that Sue lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined and would never utter a single complaint. When anyone else would have broken, Sue stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Sue.
She was born in Lexington on February 7th to Margaret Miller and Buck Ivan Tussey. Sue was the second of three children that the couple shared. Her older brother is Danny Tussey who is married to Judy Moody. Penny Tussey is the youngest of the three and is married to Joe Briggs.
At age 18, she was married to her first love Clarence Wayne Leonard of Lexington. Together, they had two children Brian Leonard and Heather Leonard married to Jamie Gaither. Their home was filled with love, laughs, and lots of sports.
In 2005, Sue retired from Duracell in Lexington after 30 years to spend time with her grandchildren Kyndall Estep, Korben Estep, and later Kabot Estep. They were the light of her life. She was known by the West Davidson community simply as Mamaw Sue. She held and drove around many of the youth in West Davidson area. She loved and fed all the kids in her presence.
She was lucky to find love for a second time in her life with Johnnie Spurlin of Lexington. They were together for 8 years and engaged. The two of them loved each other, which was apparent by her bright smile. They enjoyed frequent trips to Lexington and the “cabin” in the mountains.
Sue will join her late husband, son, and parents in heaven. She is survived by her loved ones: siblings Danny & Judy Tussey, Penny & Joe Briggs; children Heather & Jamie Gaither; nieces and nephews Dan and Jason Tussey and Brent and Stacie Briggs; grandchildren Kyndall, Korben, and Kabot Estep and fiancé Johnnie Spurlin.
Her visitation will be Monday, February 24th at 1:00 pm at Davidson Funeral home followed by a service at 2:00 pm. Her family invites all those who loved Sue to join. She will be buried at Center Church cemetery in Welcome
