Susan Forrest Koontz

Susan Forrest Koontz, age 88, of Lexington Health Care, formerly of Oak Hollow Road, Lexington passed away Sunday morning (August 28, 2011) at Lexington Health Care. Graveside service will be 11 am Wednesday (August 31, 2011) at Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of son David Koontz, 352 Lanier Road, Lexington. Mrs. Koontz was born, February 10, 1923, in Davidson County to Philip Hosey Forrest and E. Modell Williams Forrest. She was a member of Reeds Baptist Church. Mrs. Koontz worked 37 years at Dixie Furniture Company. After retiring she moved to Long Beach where she lived with her late husband, for 19 years. While there she served as a volunteer at Dosher Memorial hospital receiving a Presidential Award for her many hours of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Paul Quentin Koontz who passed away May 17, 2011; a son, Lary Paul Koontz; grandson, Thomas Glenn; brothers, Frank, Hosey and Billy Reid Forrest; and a sister, Elizabeth Yarborough. Surviving are sons, David Koontz and wife, Joretta, Mackey Koontz and wife, Renee, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Christy Koontz and husband, Mike, Shannon Koontz and wife, Susan, and Michael Koontz, all of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Jocelin Knight, Sydney E. Koontz and Sara E. Koontz; brother, John Forrest; sister, Lois Mae Norman; niece and caregiver, Verna Lee; and very special friends, Jerry Gordon and wife, Kathy, and their daughter, Melissa, of Southport. Memorials may be made to Dosher Hospital, 924 N. Howe Street, Southport, NC 28461; 55 and over Club, Southport, NC 28461; Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 180 Reeds Baptist Church Road, Lexington, NC 27295; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
