Many cousins, nieces and nephews. Susan was also survived by some very special friends near to her heart Allen and Cindy Bowman, Daryl and Cindy Shoaf and her “sisters" Sherry Hedrick and Linda Lakowski.
Susan loved her savior Jesus Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Susan was born August 25th, 1949, in Sanford, NC. Attended Southern High School in Durham, NC graduated in 1967. After high school Susan went on to serve in the medical field for 50+ years. November 1st, 1980, she married the love of her life Walter Franklin Childress. Together they loved to travel and spend as much time by the coast as they could. One of her most favorite trips was when she and Walt traveled to Hawaii. The beach was her happy place. Most summer days you could find her in her pool with a good book and a Diet Pepsi.
No one could light up her day like her four children. Anytime she could get to see them made her day even if it was an hour’s drive for a quick lunch. Of course, no meal was complete until she had a little chocolate or ice cream with the grand kids. Her grandchildren were her world. She attended many ball games, birthday parties, school events, doctor appointments, hospital stays, even made a stop in to see them getting their hair done, she never wanted to miss anything they were doing. They all agree she was the best grandma, maw-maw, GG they could have, they also say she could get a little OCD when they left drinks sitting around or the Nutella lid off.
She loved her friends and looked forward to her many girl's trips. Susan lived life to its fullest. She was always the glass is half full kind of girl. She could light up a room by simply walking in and has never met a stranger. She loved with everything she had and everyone around her could feel it. Her smile and laughter left a lifetime impression on all our hearts. She will be deeply missed by many. We are rest assured that she is rejoicing with Jesus.
