Susan Marie Proper Steffey

Susan Marie Steffey Proper, 65, of Linwood, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at her home on September 11, 2025.

Born on June 1, 1960, in Cooperstown, New York, Sue was the daughter of Vernon and Marion Proper. She graduated from Cherry Valley High School in 1977 and went on to build a long and dedicated career. She spent many years as a manager at K-Mart before continuing her work at Quality Salvage Industries. Known for her strong work ethic and loyalty, Sue was respected and admired by colleagues and friends alike.

Outside of work, Sue’s greatest joy was her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also had a special love for plants, bargain shopping, and the comfort of her animals. Sue’s warm heart and gentle nature will be remembered by all who knew her.

Sue is survived by her husband of 25 years, Eddie; her children, Tonya Mason, Edward Walker, and Dale (Jen) Young; eleven grandchildren, Taliya, Tashia, Darian, Kallie-Mae, Ivy-Maree, Anna Rae, Jenahlee, Matthew, Luke, Dalton, and Dailyn; and four great-grandchildren, Taylen, Tamir, Nova, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her siblings, Debbie, Cathy (Al), Alberta, Jodie (Yamir), and Joe (Lisa).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Marion; her brother, Joel; and her two beloved dogs, Little One and Baby Girl.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Sue’s memory. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
