Sylvia Kaye Staker Shaw, 53, of Magnolia Gardens Nursing Home, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the nursing home following an extended illness. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Floyd Baptist Church, where she was a member, by the Revs. Charles Dickens, Ron Chapman and Fred Miller. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Shaw was born in Surry County, on June 20, 1956, to Ralph Wilbur Staker and Marilyn Tilley Staker. She was a sander at Young Hinkle Furniture. She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Norman Lee Hill; and a brother, Ronald W. Staker. Surviving are her husband, Tony Darrell Shaw of the home; son, Brad Shaw of the home; daughter, Angie Shaw Everhart and husband, Johnny, of Lexington; grandson, Anthony Stewart Everhart; her mother, Marilyn Tilley Staker Hill; a brother, Jerry Wayne Staker and wife, Revonda, of Lexington; and a half sister, Patricia D. Hill. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 434 Hedrick Lodge Road. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
