Sylvia St. John Mcknight

Sylvia St. John McKnight, 88, of Winston Salem went home to be with Jesus, Monday afternoon, October 23, 2017 at the Oaks at Forsyth.A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Faith Church, 1078 Gumtree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with the Reverends Frank Shumate and Brian Graham officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.A Wilkes County native, Sylvia was the first of 11 children born, July 5, 1929 to Noah St. John and Nellie Masten St. John. She retired from Rominger-Southern Furniture as office manager. Sylvia was a member of Faith Church and attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was a great Christian and loved telling others about Jesus. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, John McKnight Jr.; son, Donald Gray McKnight; three sisters, Darlene Boyer, Ila Lewis and Charlotte Kearns; three brothers, Robert St. John, Thomas St. John and Noah Randal St. John; and grandson, Jeremy O’Neal. Sylvia is survived by her daughter-in-law, Wanda O’Neal of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Virginia Shumate and husband Frank of Kernersville, Grace Matthews of East Bend and Mae Summers and husband Fred of State Road; brother, Ernest St. John and wife Darlene of Elkin; grandson, John O’Neal (Nikki) of Winston-Salem; and her sister-in-law, Polly McKnight. In addition she is survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members who she loved so dearly.The family would like to thank the staff at the Oaks at Forsyth for all of their kindness and care given to Sylvia.Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
