Ted Austin Dixon, a father, grandfather, and hard-working man, passed away on September 17th, 2025, at the age of 72. He honorably served in the United States Army, which made him known for his unwavering work ethic and military-inspired routine. Ted was a man who approached life with discipline, determination, and a deep sense of loyalty to those he loved. He was born on January 17th, 1953, to Cuba Dixon and Verna Lee Taylor Dixon, both of whom predeceased him.
Ted’s life was shaped by a deep love for family, a passion for simple joys, and a quiet strength that those closest to him cherished. He was a homebody at heart, finding joy in the comfort of his own space, especially on his days off. Ted treasured family vacations, with Myrtle Beach and Virginia Beach holding a special place in his heart. It was during these trips that his family created some of their fondest memories, often centered around laughter and moments of pure joy.
An unexpected talent of Ted’s was his remarkable skill at Wii Sports bowling, something that surprised many who knew him. Ted was not only good at it, but he also enjoyed the excitement it brought to family gatherings.
His daily routine, reflective of his military background, was marked by structure, dedication, and consistency. He took pride in the small, everyday rituals that made up his life. Ted's loyal companion, a dog named Lucky, was always by his side, offering him unconditional love and companionship.
Ted’s most cherished relationship, however, was with his wife, Janice. The two were married for 41 wonderful years before her passing in 2016. Their love was a cornerstone of Ted’s life, and he carried the memory of Janice with him every day. Ted’s dedication to his family, and particularly to his beloved wife, never wavered; his strength and devotion to her, even after her passing, were a testament to the depth of their bond.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Dixon, daughter Angel Doub (Mitchell), and his adored grandson, Andy Michael Doub, all of whom will carry his memory forward. Ted’s life was a legacy of hard work, love, and loyalty, and his family and friends will remember him as a man who found joy in the simple things—time spent with loved ones, a well-kept routine, and the companionship of his faithful dog, Lucky.
Ted will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A visitation will be held at Davidson Funeral Home in Winston-Salem, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 25th, with a graveside at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 2 pm.
