James Terry Martin “Paw”, age 75 of the Welcome community passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Pillsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel and other times at the home.
Terry was born in Forsyth County to Philip “Phil” E. Martin and Ruby Farabee Martin. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army and retired from Hill Oil Company. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. Also, a founding member of Welcome Booster’s Club and enjoyed coaching and mentoring youth for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Virginia Tesh Martin.
He always had a love for sports and was an avid golfer. He loved his friends, his church and God, and his community. But the greatest treasure of his life was his family. He doted on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always putting the happiness of his family first.
Surviving is his wife and the love of his life Mary Sue Martin. They were married 52 years. Children; Lance Martin (wife Linda), Terena Reese (husband Tracy), Jason Martin and Julie Fountain (husband Jamie); grandchildren, Philip Martin (wife Korrie), Jennifer Caldwell (husband Bryan), Danielle DiLuzio (husband Chris), Austin Fountain, Matthew Reese, Katherine Fountain, Chase Fountain; great-grandchildren, Parker Caldwell and Addie Grace DiLuzio; sister, Vicki Sink (husband Lannie); brothers, Steve Martin and Randall Tesh (wife Cheryl) and numerous special nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation for all the love, compassion and support shown by all their friends, family and church. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and support staff in the Outpatient Comprehensive Cancer Center and the bone marrow transplant unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
