Terry Wayne Yarbrough (known by his middle name to most family and friends), age 85, passed away on June 11, 2025, at Emory Decatur Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Wayne was born on April 20, 1940, in Lexington, NC to Rossville Samuel "R.S." Yarbrough and Beatrice Chapman Yarbrough. Wayne was the first of his family to graduate from college, earning degrees in accounting and law from UNC Chapel Hill. He then moved to Atlanta with his first wife Sue Ann (née Washington) and their two sons, Allan and Bradley. He worked as a CPA for Arthur Andersen, practiced law with Savell & Williams, and then served for many years as trusted attorney and advisor for Sutherland Foods. He was also a master renovator; every home he lived in, he dramatically improved. He obtained his contractor license and built three homes, each more impressive than the last. The second had a then-innovative style with rounded corners both interior and exterior. In 1986 he moved to Hilton Head, SC, where he built his dream home, a white-columned masterpiece where every detail was lovingly executed.
Wayne was one who never met a stranger; he enjoyed having conversations with people from all walks of life. He had a big personality and a booming laugh. He was loved by his family and will be missed by many.
He is survived by two children, Allan Wayne Yarbrough and Bradley Nelson Yarbrough; four grandchildren, Grace Ann Yarbrough, Elizabeth Alleyne Yarbrough, Caleb Washington Yarbrough, and Tessa Nicole Yarbrough; and two siblings, Rossville Samuel Yarbrough III and Cindy Yarbrough Blanton.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Lexington on July 19 at 10 A.M. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wayne's life.
