Thad Hartley

Thad K. Hartley, 76, of Swicegood Road, Linwood, NC, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, surrounded by his family at Alston Brook Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Tyro United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Randy Foster and the Rev. Dr. Alan Rice. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of the daughter on Michael Road. Mr. Hartley was born October 3, 1936, in Davidson County, to George Mack Hartley and Frances Cathell Williams Hartley. Mr. Hartley was a graduate of Reeds High School, High Point College (University) and received his Masters Degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was a member of Tyro United Methodist Church and worked for many years as the Assistant Superintendent of Davidson County Schools. Thad was active in the community and had served as a board member of Lexington Memorial Hospital, Davidson Water, Inc., Davidson Medical Ministries and the Davidson West CDC. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Forrest Hartley, of the home; daughter, Lorre H. Young and husband Chad of Lexington; grandson, Alex Young of Lexington; a brother Mock Wood and wife LaWanda of Amarillo, Texas; special aunt, Hilda Shoaf; two nieces; two nephews; and the extended Hartley family. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Bayard Powell and Staff of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baptist Hospital; the entire staff of Alston Brook and two special couples Tom and Esther Michael; Josh and Erin Britton.
