The Rev. Dr. Robert “Bob” Jerald Floyd, a humble servant of the Lord, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, December 23, 2024.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 30, 2024, at North Lexington Baptist Church, where Pastor Gavin Pratt, whom Dr. Floyd mentored and raised up in ministry, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
Bob was born in Greenville, SC, and graduated from Flat Rock High School in Hendersonville, NC, in 1954. He went on to earn his BA from Carson Newman in 1972, his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Theological Seminary, and his Doctorate from Drew University. In 1969, Bob answered the Lord’s call into ministry, beginning a lifetime of faithful service to God and others. Bob pastored Rocky Point Baptist Church in Russellville, TN, and Seven Springs Baptist Church in Seven Springs, NC, before dedicating 35 years of his life to North Lexington Baptist Church. Even after retiring, he returned to shepherd God’s people, pastoring New Testament Baptist Church for four years.
Bob loved life’s simple joys—Tennessee Vols football, Tar Heels basketball, traveling to the beach, working on cars, playing golf, and sharing hotdogs with friends and family. He found deep joy in visiting people, always ready with a kind word and a listening ear. His beloved dog, Lenny, was never far from his side. Faith and family were at the center of Bob’s life. He considered it a profound blessing to have baptized all three of his grandchildren and was currently teaching a Sunday school class on the book of Acts. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madison Floyd.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Shirley Floyd; his daughter, Tamara Nifong (Tim); his sons, Robert “Robby” Floyd, Jr. (Kim), and Kristopher Floyd (Heather); his sister, Sylvia Carroll (Mike); two grandchildren, Jason Nifong (Kelly) and Chase Nifong (Heather); a great-grandson, Tyus Nifong; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob’s unwavering faith, humble spirit, and servant’s heart touched the lives of all who knew him. His legacy of love and devotion to the Lord will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Lexington Baptist Church, 201 Mize Rd, Lexington, NC 27295.
