Thelma Crump

Mrs. Thelma Helms Black Crump, 99, formerly of Charlotte, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Hinkle Hospice House. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 12 at the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum by Rev. Bill Roth. Mrs. Crump was born July 15, 1912 in Mecklenburg County to Willie Reese Helms Sr. and Flonnie Angeline Helms. She was a Registered Nurse and member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Charlotte. Her husbands, Dr. Vance Arthur Black and William E. Crump, preceded her in death, as well as her sons, Thomas Edward Black, and Milton Black; her brother, Reese Helms, Jr., and her sister, Sarah Galloway. She is survived by her grandchildren, Tom Phelps and wife, Jessica, of Louisville, KY, and Ashley Timberlake and husband, Daniel, of Lexington; and her great grandchildren, Madison and Riley Phelps, and Ella and Mac Timberlake.
