Thelma Wood Leonard

July 14, 1937 — December 14, 2017

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4   After a hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Thelma Lee Leonard, won the battle December 14, 2017 and was called home to be with her Lord. It was our prayer that she would spend Christmas with our Daddy and her sweet Jesus. Our hearts are broken but also rejoicing in knowing that she will have no more pain or sorrow and that one day we will join them. Mom served the Lord faithfully in every aspect of children’s ministry at Faith Baptist Church until its closing, and was currently a member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church. She loved children and God had given her a gift of being able to teach them, which was her passion. For almost 60 years, she taught several generations of children in both Sunday School and Children’s Church and never met a child she didn’t love. She loved her family with all her heart and she will be truly missed. Thelma was born July 14, 1937 to Shelly L. Wood and Arcie Cora Foster Wood. She was a housewife her entire married life and was well known for her cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life of 58 years, Robert Lee Leonard, a nephew, George Malcomb Carper and a precious aunt, Bessie Foster. She is surviving by her two daughters, Brenda (Keith) Tulbert of Winston Salem  and Donna (Ken) Dawson of Lexington . She is also survived by her three grandchildren who she was so proud of, Melissa (Kevin) Ames, Michael Coley and Steve (Heather) Tulbert and one great grandson, Zachary Nathaniel Ames as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sister, Helen Carper of Mocksville. Services for Mrs. Leonard will be 11:00 am Monday December 18, 2017 at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel withy visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 am. Pastors James Brown of Vernon Baptist Baptist Church and Mark Blair of First Baptist Church of Welcome will be officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Flowers are greatly appreciated or memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 225  North Michigan Avenue, Fl.17, Chicago, Il.60601. The family would like to thank all the staff at Abbott’s Creek  Rehabilitation Center in Lexington, NC for the care and love that she received there, especially from her special CNA’s and nurses.       Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is serving the family.
