Theodore “Ted” R. Robbins 84 of Welcome passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House with his family by his side when he passed. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Mitch Wilson and Colleen Danson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Ted was born in Chatham County on November 20, 1932 to Theodore Roosevelt Robbins, Sr. and Grace Mae Langley Robbins. He retired from the Winston-Salem Journal as an ad composer after 33 years of service. He was an avid golfer, coached and played softball with the Winston-Salem Journal for many years and loved all sports. Ted served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Center United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Henry Harold Robbins and a sister Doris Robbins. Surviving are his wife Barbara Ann Johnson Robbins with 64 years of marriage; five sons, Dale Robbins of Atlanta, GA, Donnie Robbins (Sandy) of Midway, Henry Robbins (Tanya) of Midway, Gene Robbins (Jennifer) of Midway and Danny Robbins of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Shelia Nifong (Jerry) of Midway; a brother, Bobby Robbins of White Rock, British Columbia; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Center United Methodist Church, General Fund, 186 Center Church Rd., Lexington, NC 27295 and Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Road is assisting the family.
