Theresa Feezor Bolick

February 16, 1933 — April 10, 2021

Theresa Feezor Bolick, 88, of Lexington, NC, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 10, 2021. She was born in Davidson County on February 16, 1933 to George Cletus Feezor and Ruby Trantham Feezor.  While growing up in the country, she had many wonderful times with her Trantham and Feezor grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Early in life she recognized her love of music and began piano lessons.  Her father faithfully drove her to the music store each week to buy sheet music. She progressed quickly and developed beautiful technique and flawless skill.  She loved playing the pump organ at her Trantham grandparent’s home and had many opportunities to play for churches in Davidson County.  After graduating Valedictorian in 1951 from Southmont High School, she spent one semester at Stetson University before transferring to Mars Hill College to complete an Associate degree in Organ Performance.

She married Ernest Bolick, Jr., in 1955 and taught elementary school and private piano lessons in Columbia, SC, while he attended Lutheran Theological Seminary.  She served with the Board of American Missions from 1958 to 1963 and they started Good Shepherd Lutheran church in Sanford, Florida where she served as organist.

Her love of the Tar Heel State brought her back to North Carolina where she taught at the UNC Demonstration School working with future music education students. During that time, she served as a ghost writer for the Allyn Bacon Music series while taking graduate classes at UNC-Chapel Hill and Appalachian State University. She received her master’s degree in Music Education in 1966.

For several years, she taught elementary school in Pinellas County, Florida, and served as the children’s choir director and organist at St. Paul’s Lutheran church where her former husband served as pastor. She spent a year in Louisburg, NC, implementing Title 1 funds to establish a library at Gold Sand Middle School.  She was an expert grammarian and would unapologetically correct you if you ever misspoke!

After moving to Charlotte in 1969, she taught for over 20 years in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system at Kennedy and Sedgefield Middle Schools.  Her classes included music education, piano performance, guitar, drama, dance, and creative writing.  She enriched the lives of thousands of Charlotte area students. For many years former students would recognize her around town and thank her for inspiring them with her gift of music.  Theresa treasured the year she hosted an exchange student from Holland and always held a special place in her heart for her other “daughter” Edith.  In her spare time she and her daughter, Maria, took courses from CPCC that included sewing, tap dancing, water and snow skiing.  She had some fun memories of dancing with Chubby Checker in Myrtle Beach, SC and seeing Elvis Presley at the Charlotte Coliseum.

After retirement, Theresa traveled all over the world. She shared many stories of her experiences such as riding the train and staying in hostels throughout Europe. She had quite the adventurous spirit!  During the mid 1990’s she moved to Mexico where she married Wayo. They shared many happy times and he dutifully cared for her as her health declined.

Theresa cherished her five grandchildren and drove around with a license plate that read, “GMA of 5!”  Tee Fee, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren, would bring gifts from her travels. One of her most special treasures was a vial of water from the Jordan River in the Holy Land that was used for a grandchild’s baptism.  She instilled in them a love for music and musical theater and would spend many hours at the piano playing show tunes as well as classical music which she played from memory.  She could easily sight read anything put in front of her.  One of her all-time favorite musicals was “The Sound of Music.”  In 1965, she took her pre-school daughter to meet Maria Von Trapp, the inspiration for the newly released film.  Theresa was always proud to boast that Maria Von Trapp swept her daughter onto her lap when she found out her name was Maria!  This musical score was a favorite to play for enjoyment and accompany at talent shows and events in which Maria, Edith, and her grandchildren would participate. We will miss her stories, her laugh, and her generous heart.

Theresa leaves behind her dear spouse, Aurelio Plascencia. She also leaves behind a devoted “grand-dog” Deacon, who spent many years showing her unconditional love!

Surviving are her daughter, Maria Bolick Katibah and husband Dr. William G. Katibah, III  (Huntersville, NC); Grandchildren, Kristen Katibah (Indianapolis, Indiana); Hope Katibah (Charlotte, NC); David Katibah (Washington, DC);   Meredith Katibah and Matthew Katibah both of Chapel Hill, NC;  and many extended family members in  the Lexington, NC area and across the States.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 18, at 3pm, at Jersey Baptist Church, 2920 Jersey Baptist Church Road, Lexington, NC, with Rev. Doug Falls officiating.  The family will receive guests in the fellowship hall after a brief graveside internment service.

Her body will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, from 1:00pm-5:00pm on Saturday, April 17, with the family not present.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in her honor to a Christian organization of your choice or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association which she supported faithfully over the years.

The family of Theresa Feezor Bolick would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice of Davidson County who cared for her so well over the past year.  We offer special thanks to her nurses, especially Robin, Tammy,  and Kim;  and her CNA’s,  Kathy and Kristain, who shared many sweet times and giggles with her. Words cannot express our heartfelt appreciation to her caregiver, Darlene Burns, who Theresa spoke of as “her friend.”  We call her our ANGEL!

Theresa penned for her 50 th college reunion biography:  “Yes, I’ve had an exciting ride!”

We know that she is now rejoicing and dancing in heaven.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
