Thomas Edward Bridges

Thomas Edward Bridges, age 93, of Lexington passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Reeds United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Lawton officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Bridges was born on August 10, 1924 in Cleveland County, NC to William Ervin and Margaret Willis Bridges. He retired from Williams Company after 35 years of employment. He was a Veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II, where he served in France and was wounded in battle. He was a member of Enterprise Masonic Lodge; very active member of Reeds United Methodist Church until his later years when his health would not allow him to attend. He was loved by his family, church and community. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 71 years, Lucille F. Bridges who passed away November 4, 2016; eight brothers, Dan, Harvey, Jim, Roy, Arnold, Hood, Bill and Ray and four sisters, Blanche, Bryte, Bonnie and Ruby. Surviving are his daughter, Betty Essick; two sons, Eddie Bridges (Linda) and Larry Bridges (Patsy); grandchildren, Christi Hepler (Todd), Kim Essick (Chris), Terri Cates (Lin), Aaron Bridges (Cari), Michael Bridges (LauraAnn) and Anna Hutchins (Jon); eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Bridges, brother-in-law, Clyde Falls and sister-in-law, Sandee Falls; and many “number one nieces and nephews” who treasured their “number on uncle”. Memorials may be directed to Reeds United Methodist Church at 4731 W. Old Hwy 64 Lexington, NC 27295 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC  27292.
