Thomas Jefferson Brittain, 87, of Goforth Lake Road, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 02, 2011, at Abbotts Creek Care and Rehabilitation.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Egbert Craven officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Wayne and Teresa Jackson, 493 Goforth Lake Road.
Mr. Brittain was born September 27, 1923, in Burke County, to Floyd Ranzo Brittain and Bessie Stamey Brittain. He was retired from RJ Reynolds and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving aboard the USS Drexler DD741. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Brittain, Jesse Brittain, and Robert Brittain; and sisters, Maggie Merrell, Pearl Huffman, Sallie Cline, Johnsie Kalowski, Gladys Reed and Mirene Reed.
Surviving are his wife, Reba “Peggy” Brittain; son, Harry Brittain and wife, Diane, of Lexington; daughter, Gloria Ann Bliss of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Paul Brittain and wife, Cheryl, Jonathan Brittain and wife, Penny, Wayne Jackson and wife, Teresa, Stephen Jackson and wife, Tiffanie, Jason Jackson and wife, Jill; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Danie, Mason and Maisie Brittain; Hunter, Dawson, Immanuel and Macie Jackson; and nieces and nephews to numerous to name.
