Lexington, N.C. Dee Byrd, a beloved father, grandfather, preacher and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 79.
Born on December 30, 1944 in Guilford County to Sears Jackson Byrd and Bessie Mitchell Byrd. Dee lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and generosity. He was a beacon of strength and wisdom for his family and friends, offering his guidance and support whenever they were in need. His warm personality and infectious smile, and hugs, brought joy to those around him. Dee and his twin brother Lee were founders of Uwharrie Baptist Church. Dee shared the gospel with everyone he came in contact with. He loved to hunt, fish, going to the flea market, playing his guitar and singing, loved cars and was a loving family man.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his loving and devoted wife, Delores Kaye Odell Byrd, several brothers and his sister.
He is survived by his loving sons, Tim Byrd (Teresa), Ricky Byrd (Jill), and Marcus Byrd (Nancy), his grandchildren, Star Lord (Mark), Misty Mixon (Travis), April Byrd, Brittany Byrd, Candace Combs (Zachary), and Alexis Wilson, great-grandchildren; Jacob Blackmer, Elizabeth Lord, and Nolynn Creech, and his beloved fur baby; Bailey.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 6, at Davidson Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Todd officiating, burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
The Byrd family invites friends and loved ones to come together to celebrate Dee’s life and share in their memories one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Thomas will be dearly missed, but his memory will forever be a guiding light for his family and the many friends he made over the years. His legacy will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing him.
