Thomas Mock Hartley

March 28, 1921 — August 20, 2017

Thomas Mock Hartley, age 96 of South NC Highway 150, Linwood passed away Sunday morning August 20, 2017 at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord. Friends and family are invited to the inurnment at Salisbury National Cemetery Annex Friday, August 25, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. with military honors by Davidson County Honor and the National Guard. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Churchland Baptist Church, 7516 NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC. The family will receive friends following the memorial. Thomas was born March 28, 1921 to Roy Washington and Annie Cope Hartley. He was a lifelong member of Churchland Baptist Church and resident of the Churchland community. He was a retired Master Mechanic with Davis Chevrolet. He was a member of “The Greatest Generation” having served in the US Army during World War II, serving in the 25th Infantry Ordnance Bomb Disposal Squad, Asiatic Pacific campaign in Guam, Guadalcanal, Philippines, Japan and French New Caledonia. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious duty during military operations against the enemy on Luzon, Philippine Islands in June 1945. Thomas was a Life Member of VFW 3074. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona Swicegood Hartley; sisters, Dorothy Troxell and Kathleen Beane; brothers, Rudolph Hartley, Seabon “Buck” Hartley and Don Hartley. Surviving are his daughter, Kaye Hartley Stokes (Michael) of Concord; son, Ronald Conway Hartley (Gerri) of Lexington; grandchildren, Meredith Barbour (Robert), Ryan Stokes (Christian), Brian Holt (Leigh Ann) and Dan Hartley; great-grandchildren, Brianna Barbour, Hannah Barbour, Justin Barbour, Meredith Stokes, Thomas Stokes, and Joshua Stokes; Honorary great-granddaughter, Kylee Tyson; sister, Sue Williams of Linwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Churchland Baptist Church Building Fund, 7516 S. NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295 or Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC  28081. Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
