It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tommy James Murphy, who left us on Monday, April 28th, 2025, at the age of 63. A beloved husband, brother, and friend, Tommy's loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.
A resident of Lexington, NC, Tommy was born on January 8th, 1962, to the late Thomas Patton Murphy and Susie Virginia Murphy. He carried their legacy forward with honor and grace throughout his life.
Tommy is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sharon Murphy, of their Lexington home. His life and spirit continue to be cherished by his family: his brother, Johnnie Arthur Murphy of North Carolina; and his sisters, Mary Murphy Peeples of Calabash, North Carolina, and Karen Murphy Dowdy of Lewisville, North Carolina.
Tommy dedicated his career to educating others, serving as an Instructional Technologist at Wake Forest University until his retirement. Outside of his professional life, he served his country with pride in the Navy, embodying the values of dedication and service.
His love for computers and all things electronic was evident in his everyday pursuits. An avid outdoorsman, Tommy also enjoyed hunting, finding peace and connection in the natural world.
Though Tommy's light has left this world, his legacy endures in the hearts of his loved ones and the countless students he inspired over the years. In honor of his memory, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements for Tommy have been entrusted to Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. His spirit will forever be a guiding light for those who had the privilege of knowing him.
