Tommy Owens

November 7, 1940 — March 12, 2013

Tommy Ray Owens, age 72 of Snider Avenue, Lexington passed away Tuesday at VA Hospital in Asheville after fighting a courageous battle for several years. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday at Mount Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville, conducted by Dr. Keith Carroll. Inurnment will be at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday. Tommy was born in Davidson County, November 7, 1940 to Raymond Elwood Owens and Lillie Rakes Owens. He attended Lexington Senior High School, and attended Mount Zion Wesleyan Church. He served his country in the US Army and was a former truck driver for Glosson Motor Lines. He took great pride in work around High Rock Lake and retired as owner of High Rock Marine Repair. He enjoyed all things out doors, snow skiing, water skiing, riding his motorcycle, building race boats and hot rod cars. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tommy is survived by his daughter; Emy Owens Jarrett and husband Michael of Lexington; step daughter, Ginger Elledge and husband Greg of Liberty; grandchildren, Christy Jarrett, Breann Jarrett both of Lexington; Nathan Watkins and wife Amber of Schweinfurt, Germany and Philip Watkins of Greensboro; brothers, Chester Owens and wife Carol of Thomasville, Steve Owens and wife Sherry of Lexington; sister, Brenda Young and husband Jim of Lexington; his nieces and nephews, Tony Owens and wife Tonya of Thomasville, Lisa Berry and husband Sandy of Cassett, SC, Matthew Owens, Brian Young and Owens Young all of Lexington; his lifelong friends, Jack Hege of Lexington and Jon Reynolds of Lewisville; his most loyal friend and neighbor Tim Bryan of Lexington and last but not least, his canine buddy “Angel Bob”. Flowers are welcomed, but memorials may be made to donor’s favorite charity.
