Charles Tommy Phillips, age 69, of Holston Road, Lexington, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Thomasville Medical Center, after three years of declining health. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with the Rev. Sarah Snell and Rev. Butch Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in the New Friendship United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home on Holston Road, Lexington. Tommy was born in Watauga County July 25, 1942 to James Clayton Phillips and Nellie Ruth Greene Phillips. He was a member of New Friendship United Church of Christ and a retired health inspector with the Davidson County Health Department with 30 years of service. He was a former member with the Davis Townsend Lions Club, coached community baseball for a number of years and was formerly active with the Boy Scouts Troop 204. He is preceded in death by two brothers Bob Phillips and Earl Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Swing Phillips of the home; two sons Charles T. Phillips Jr.. and Eric Phillips and wife, Jennifer, both of Lexington; one granddaughter, Gracie Phillips, who was the love of his life; two sisters, Betty Bentley and husband, Sam, Kate Cogan and husband, Pat; one brother, J.C. Phillips and wife, Carrie, all of Vilas, NC; and two sister-in-laws, Bonita Phillips of Sugar Grove, NC and Letha Phillips of Taylorsville, NC. Memorials may be made to New Friendship United Church of Christ Building Fund, 307 Turner Road, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292
