Carlton Keith “Tommy” Williams, age 84 of Bremen Garden Dr., Lexington died Friday, September 23, 2011 in Thomasville Medical Center after an illness of one month.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, September 26, 2011 at Second Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. William B. Shrout, Jr. officiating. A private entombment will follow.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mr. Williams was born February 8, 1927 in Davidson County to Alexander R. Williams and Emma Surratt Williams. He was elected as a volunteer fireman with the Lexington Fire Department on June 2, 1955, and went full time on August 1, 1956. He was appointed as Chief on August 1, 1980 and served until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the NC Firemen Association, the Davidson County Firemen Association and the NC State Chief Firemen Association.
He was a lifetime member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Men’s Fellowship. Tommy also delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II. He was preceded him in death by his brothers, Herman Williams, Banks Williams, Roger Williams, and Gilmer Williams, and five sisters, Mary Smith, Verona Poston, Ruby Williams, Pearl Holt and Flonnie Dance.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Laura Kepley Williams of the home; a son, Carlton Williams and wife, Tina of Boiling Springs, SC; a daughter, Carolyn Robbins and husband, Bill of Lexington; five grandchildren, Michael Robbins Owen, Ellen Robbins Peterson, Kristin Williams, Molly Robbins, Kara Williams Hensley; three great grandchildren, Jacob Holmes, Lucas Peterson, Riley Hensley and a sister, Charlene Johnson of Hendersonville, NC
