Treva Michael Smith of Lexington, NC died September 15, 2016.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Lexington, NC with the Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery on Leonard Road in Lexington. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Treva was the youngest daughter of Richmond Glen Michael and Nena Mae Koontz. She was the granddaughter of John Michael / Laura Berrier and Charles Koontz / Bessie Heitman. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Martha, Helen and Laura, as well as her three brothers, Richmond Glen Jr., Gorman and Bruce.
Treva married Joseph Woodrow Smith of Tower Hill, Ill., in August of 1949. The family lived in Jamestown, NC, Los Altos Hills, CA, Barrington, RI, and Manlius, NY. Mr. Smith was a salesman and sales executive with the Sisalkraft division of St. Regis Paper Company for over 40 years. The couple divorced in 1977. Treva worked as a receptionist for the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Company in Syracuse, NY for 17 years, retiring to Lexington in 1995.
Treva loved photography and gardening. She sold beauty care products as a younger woman for many years. She was an avid Syracuse Orangemen fan and thoroughly enjoyed Nascar racing. Most especially she loved a good yard sale. Her German heritage made her very frugal. Later in life, Treva enjoyed organizing an annual Michael family reunion in Lexington which drew numerous Michaels, Shoafs, Koontzes, Robertsons, and others.
Treva is survived by her six children, Daniel Michael Smith of Warwick, RI, Carolyn Smith Poulos of Liverpool, NY, Joseph Michael Smith of Dedham, MA, and Georgetown, ME, Joseph Woodrow Smith of Arizona, Susan Florence Smith of Lexington, NC and Angela Smith Grant of Archdale, NC; as well as her five grandchildren, Ryan and Kendall Grant, Christian Huff, Brandon Jacobs, and Angela Meadows; and her dog, Shadow.
Memorials may be made in Treva’s name to the Davidson County Animal Shelter, 490 Glendale Road, Lexington, NC 27292
