Troy Windell Callahan, 76, of Lexington, a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after an extended illness.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reeds United Methodist Church, where he was an active member for more than 50 years, by Pastor Gary Foster and Dr. Jim Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Callahan was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Surry County to Jesse Martin Callahan and Ila Williams Callahan. A lifelong resident of the Reeds community, Mr. Callahan was co-founder and co-owner of Gobble and Callahan Concrete and retired in 1999. He was a retired charter member of the Reeds Volunteer Fire Department. As an active member in the West Davidson and Reeds booster clubs, he was instrumental in building the current Tyro Middle School Stadium. He served as trustee at his church. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, supplying friends and family with fresh vegetables all summer. Mr. Callahan was a friend and helpful neighbor to all who knew him.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Maxine Swicegood Callahan of the home; one son, Jeffrey Troy Callahan and his wife, Dee Dee, of Lexington; and three grandchildren, Jacob Cole Callahan, Matthew Troy Callahan and Clint Fitzgerald Callahan. Mr. Callahan was a loving brother to two sisters, Nina Callahan and Julia Callahan, both of Lexington, and three brothers, Jesse Callahan, Billy Callahan and Phil Callahan. Mr. Callahan has gone to join a daughter, Barbara Callahan Thomas, who preceded him in death. A brother, Hobart Callahan, and two sisters, Faye Callahan and Bertha Callahan, also preceded him in death.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Gary Foster, Dr. Jim Martin and Gary Gibson. Special thanks also goes to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home staff for their loving care during Mr. Callahan's extended illness.
The body will remain at Davidson Funeral Home, however, the family will receive friends at the home.
