Van Louis Gunter, 70, of Paul Workman Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Lexington Memorial Hospital from a sudden illness. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Graveside rites will be provided by Randolph Honor Guard. Mr. Gunter was born March 11, 1939, in Swain County, to George Gunter and Estella Montieth Gunter. He was a retired supervisor at Mid State Tile, attended East End Baptist Church and also served in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Gunter. Surviving are his wife, Rachal Ledford Gunter of the home; a daughter, LaDale G. Dennis of Lexington; son-in-law, Craig Dennis of Lexington; grandson, Nathan Dennis; and a nephew, Eugene Gunter. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to express a special thanks to Linda, Eddie Dean Everhart for all their kindness and care for Mr. Gunter.
