Rodda ‘Van’ Kearns, 59, of Lexington, passed away suddenly on May 31, 2018 at his vacation home in Shallotte, NC.   A memorial service will be held at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Silver Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Brian Smith, Gene Little and Sandy Young officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.   Van was born in Davidson County, NC on January 1, 1959 to G. L. Kearns, Jr. and Dorothy Parker Kearns.  He was a 1977 graduate of Central Davidson High School and attended Piedmont Bible College.  He was retired from the Winston-Salem Journal and a member of Silver Valley Baptist Church and was a member of the Sound Of Joy having played with them for ten years.  He was preceded in death by his mother.   Surviving is his loving wife, Debra Cody Kearns, of the home; sons Jeffrey Kearns of Lexington and Jared Kearns of Morganton; daughters Terilyn Kearns and Kirsten Kearns, both of Lexington; 2 grandchildren Leia Kearns and Leilani McGriff, and a brother, Tim Kearns of Lexington.   Memorials can be made to Davidson County Senior Services Meals Program, 555-B West Center Street Extension, Lexington, NC 27295.
