Vardis Lavon Rains

Rev. Vardis Lavon Rains, age 83 of Green Meadows Drive, Lexington passed away Friday morning at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. Funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Monday in the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with Revs. Mark Blair and Jonathan Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Welcome. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the service. Vardis was born December 12,1930 in Marshall County, Alabama to Oshie and Odell Rains. He was a retired Southern Baptist Minister and was strong in his faith. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome, a veteran of the US Navy having served his country in the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 3074. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Betsy Jenkins Rains of the home; sons, Steven Wayne Rains (Sheila) of Elizabethtown, NC; Daryl Evan Rains of Winston Salem; Gary Alan Rains (Cynthia) of Durham; grandchildren, Cole Rains, Megan Georgion (Chris), Nathan Rains, Caleb Rains (Holly), Christian Rains, Hailey Rains and Katelyn Rains; great-grandchildren, Emily, Ariel, Kyleigh and Connor; sister, Joanne Orr of Martling, Alabama; brother, Paul Rains of Decatur, Alabama.
