Veighlene Garner Smith

Mrs. Veighlene Garner Smith, 86, of Wildlife Circle, died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Lexington Medical Center after declining health. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 5 at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dr. Ray Howell, III and Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church prior to the service. Mrs. Smith was born May 9, 1925 in Davidson County to Dawney W. and Alice Carrick Garner. She retired from Sears after 30 years of service. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidellis, Dorcas, Ruth Sunday School Class and the Leonard Gallimore Circle. Her husband, W. Gale Smith, preceded her in death on August 26, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Garner and Rowland Garner; and her sisters, Nona Ribelin and Alene Frady. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Smith of Lexington and Mark Smith of Union Mills; her daughter, Patti Marlowe and husband, Sam; her grandchildren, Sam Marlowe, Jr. and wife, Missy of Rutherfordton, Brian Marlowe and wife, Kelley, of Ft. Meade, MD and Jill Simmons and husband, Ashley, of Rutherfordton; her great grandchildren: Hannah Marlowe, Emma Marlowe, Laney Simmons, and Taylor Simmons; her “adopted” grandchildren, Peter Chov and wife, Rachel, Michael Chov and wife, Sovadi, Apostol Jekov and wife, Zornitza, and Bobby Chang; and her adopted great grandchildren, Charlie Chov, Julie and Nathan Chov, Alexa Jekov, and Christopher Jekov; brother, Harold Garner of Denton; and sister, Phyllis Wood of Texas.
