Velma Arvey, 81, of Davidson County, passed away Friday, October 31, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with Rev. Anna Carter officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1;00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at a later day at Swain Memorial Park in Bryson City.
Velma was born on November 26, 1942, in Swain County, to the late Sanford and Pearl Crisp Cable.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with family, especially her grandson. Velma is remembered as being an exceptionally giving person and gave to many charitable organizations, some including animals, veterans, and children.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy L. Arvey; and daughter, Kimberly Dawn Arvey.
Left to carry on her legacy is her grandson, Jay Proctor of Lexington; brother, Marvin Cable (Charlotte) of State Road; cousin, Sherry Proctor (Ted) Proctor of Lexington; and other close family, Jessica McCollum, Jon Proctor, Keeli McLamb, and Michael Willson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Davidson County and those who worked closely with them and went above and beyond giving care to Velma and the family.
The family also wishes to thank Judy Younts for her loving care of Velma.
