Velna Marie Garrison

Velna Marie Medlin Garrison, age 101 of Hickory Street, Lexington passed away Tuesday (6-23-2009) at Hinkle Hospice House. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday (6-25-2009) in the Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with Rev. Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Velna was born in Davidson County, July 31, 1907 to William Medlin and Mary Eller Billings Medlin. She was a homemaker and attended Freedom Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years Hubert Garrison who died Aug. 31, 2008, one daughter, Mary Jane Garrison Martin, June 19, 2009, two sons, Hubert Garrison, Jr. and Albert Lee Garrison, four sisters, Hallie Loman, Jenny Barnes, Rosa Medlin and Letha Crepps; two brothers, David Medlin and Willie Medlin. Surviving are: one daughter, Betty Livengood of Lexington; one son, Jimmy Garrison and wife Lois of Lexington; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from noon until 1:00 pm prior to the service, and at other times at the home on Hickory Street.
