Velna Beck Swing

Velna Beck Swing, 97, of Fairview Drive, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 5, 2010, at Alston Brook. Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mike Hooper. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home prior to the service and at other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Martha Swing. Velna was born in Davidson County on July 27, 1913, to Walter J. Beck and Alice Shirley Beck. She was a homemaker and a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard L. Swing; seven sisters, Savannah Younts, Eunice Wright, Nina Sledge, Elsie Everhart, Florence Beck, Ora Beck and Catherine Leonard; and two brothers, Oscar Beck and Howard Beck. Surviving are one son, Richard Swing and wife Martha of Lexington, and two nieces. The family would like to thank Cathy Martin and Teresa Hepler for their kindness and devotion to Velna and also to the staff of Alston Brook Nursing Home.
