Velva Ann Ruth Kennedy

Velva Ann Ruth Kennedy left this world on December 6, 2023.  She was born November 6, 1935, to Hubert and Lucille Hussy Ruth in High Point, North Carolina.  She grew up on a dairy/tobacco farm which is now the Davis Rodeo Ranch.

Velva was educated in Randleman and Hasty High Schools, Jones Business School, Piedmont Community College, and Winston-Salem School of Beauty Culture.  She was co-owner of a beauty shop for several years and retired as a teacher’s assistant at Midway Elementary School in Midway, North Carolina.  Her hobbies included crafts, needlework, and painting.  After retiring, she enjoyed league bowling.  Velva was an excellent photographer with many ribbons and awards.  She enjoyed the mountains and spent many years hiking and photographing in Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

On April 2, 1954, she married Phil and they were married for almost 70 years.  After retirement, she and Phil traveled to 48 states.

Preceding her in death are her parents and her brother Douglas Ruth.  Surviving are her husband Phil, of the home, a son Kenneth of Clemmons, a grandson Dylan, a sister Anita Olive of Covington, Georgia, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on December 14, 2023, at 11:00 am at Oak Forest United Methodist Church with Reverand Richard Carter and Reverand Dwight Cartner officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
